Counselling

Counselling and psychotherapy are always undertaken at the request of the client and no-one can properly be “sent” for counselling or psychotherapy. There are many situations these days where people with influence in our lives (perhaps a relative, manager at work, or teacher) will suggest talking therapies as a solution to a problem. This should be offered without any pressure or strings attached.‘ – BACP

Hi I’m Jackie Hill…

and I’m guessing that you are looking for a solution to whatever is challenging you in your life right now. Whether it’s personal or professional I’m here to help you.  I have made it my life’s work to empower others to achieve their potential and be happy. Consequently, I am passionate about helping people like you.

The term counselling can often mean different things to different people. However, generally speaking, counselling is a process by which people seek to change something in their lives or to explore their thoughts and emotions.

Counselling is one of the ‘talking therapies’. The purpose is to provide a safe, confidential environment whereby a person can discuss their problems and difficult feelings. The word counselling is often used as a general term to refer to other psychological therapies such as psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). However, counselling is also a therapy in its own right.

The process of counselling involves a series of formal sessions where we talk together about your problems and feelings. Counselling offers you an objective perspective on your situation that you may otherwise not obtain from friends and family members. This will enable you to gain insights and strategies to manage and deal with your problems.

Relationship between counsellor and client

This is the key to successful counselling. A good rapport develops a sense of trust and safety allowing honesty and openness in discussing difficult feelings. For any type of counselling to be effective it is important for us to build a relationship together whereby you feel safe and trusting. During our sessions together, I will focus on you and listen without judging or criticising you.

As a qualified counsellor I am trained to listen with empathy (by putting myself in your shoes) but will also challenge to help you to see your issues more clearly or in a different way. Be assured that any negative thoughts and feelings you might have, I can help you deal with them in a positive way.

I am not there to offer advice or tell you what to do.

Instead I will encourage you to talk about what’s bothering you and help you uncover any root causes. Together we will identify your specific ways of thinking and explore. I will then look to create a plan of action to either help you reconcile your issues or help you to find ways of coping.

What to expect from Counselling

Every counselling session is tailored to your individual needs. There are several ways we can do this.

This is when you make an appointment me to see me in person. Usually this is at my therapy room in Bacton, Suffolk. Face-to-face sessions are extremely popular because they provide an opportunity for you to react to any emotions that arise there and then. My fee for individual face-to-face counselling is £72 per session (50 minutes)

You may choose to see me by yourself, or maybe you would prefer to join one of my workshops. The choice is yours.

Workshops are not always running all the time so if this is of interest to you please let me know. Going to a group workshop can be helpful if you want to discuss your issues with other people who are going through similar problems. You may even gain a support network through this process.

Also often referred to as couples counselling. However, relationship difficulties can cover a wider spectrum. Consequently this is for anyone who feels they are having difficulties in their relationships with others. It doesn’t always have to be with you partner or spouse, as relationship difficulties can be occur with friends, family members, work colleagues or even our neighbours.

I offer a caring and supportive, non-judgemental environment to help you find a way through any difficulties, however big or small. If coming to the office is difficult for whatever reason, counselling sessions can take place on-line through WhatsApp.

Online counselling is available using WhatsApp.. It is very efficient and effective way of undertaking therapy or coaching, particularly if you lead a busy life. You can find out more details about WhatsApp counselling, therapy, or life coaching sessions by clicking here.

During your counselling sessions with me, I will encourage you to express your feelings and emotions. You will gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes as I guide you to find your own solutions to the problems you face. Furthermore, sharing your worries and fears with someone else who acknowledges your feelings is a great relief in itself.

This is a question people often ask me. The answer of course is entirely up to you. However, please be aware that the process can be painful and uncomfortable at times and so I will guide you as to how often you will need to come.

Initially you will be offered a single session where we can discuss together the problems you are facing. At that session I will assess whether a short course of counselling over a few weeks or months or whether a longer period is more appropriate. Whatever we decide we would regularly review your progress at intervals of 6 weeks.
